Cameron Highlands to Kuala Lumpur, Wednesday 7th September 2016

We left the Cameron Highlands this morning about 9.00am after two nights up in the highlands. Really enjoyed the difference up here to what we have seen and certainly glad that we didn't do the day trip when we were here two years ago. Would have been a tremendous day with all the twisty driving up and down the hill. The way down the hill back to KL was quite different to the trip up the hill from Ipoh. A Malaysian lady tried to advise us to go back the way we came up less twisty, but we both thought why go down the way we came up when we have the chance to see a different way. We were sure glad we did as life on this side of the hill was quite different. Its quite back in time and we saw more of the Malaysians' very simple way of life up in the hills. As you see below.

Descending down and it was very twisty so had to take it slow as we had plenty of time. Fortunately we did it early which was good not much traffic around but as we got nearer the bottom we could see the increase of the traffic. Above is the dense bush land where local families are dotted around.

One of the first road side huts where a family live. You can see the smoke, must be cooking.
They have their huts very close to the road and when we passed we could see small groups of a family including the kids, so feel that they are too isolated for the kids to go to school.

Just approaching another tiny village of just a few houses.

Closing in on the same village but at least they have a waterfall coming down for their water supplies.

Another small community. I think that they have to live right on the side of the road, one because the land drops away very steeply and two a lot of them have their small stalls on the side of the road selling a few products. That's probably how they survive. They are really living in dense  bush so would be too hard for them to travel anywhere.

Passing through another village. This one a little more upmarket with bigger and better stalls. They too have a waterfall. These are more like very small villages where the huts on the side of the road are usually just individual places on their own.

 Same village quite pretty.

These are their upmarket stalls

Just a tree which I thought looked different!!

Continuing down the hill.

More road huts

Hens were living in this one.

We stopped in the Motorway layby and decided we need to stretch our legs and have a coffee. PT decided he needed something sweet to keep him going. Went to a shop and girl couldn't speak English so he pointed to what he thought was some pastry that looked like it might be filled with apple or similar but after buying it he ask another young chap who came into the shop. What have I just bought and he said curried chicken, so we had a bit of a laugh. We then came across a bakery type of shop and said what are these and were told they have custard in them, so felt we were on the right track. Went and sat down with our curried pastry and sweet custard thingy and then noticed that they were shape like a fish. Bit different having a sweet custard thingy shaped like a fish.

Got on our way again and just wanted to mention about all the continuous Palm oil trees which you hear about. They are all along the motorways and cover so much land in the country areas.

Motorway approaching KL

Finally arrived at E&O Residence at 2.30pm to be told our room wouldn't be ready for one hour, so  we then returned the rental car which was a bit of a relief after driving into KL. Got back and were told another hour. It was now 4.00pm. Good to have a washing machine after doing hand washing nearly every night since we arrived. What a luxury.

Those that followed my blog two years ago will recognise these photos where we stayed then. It was just like coming home!!!

View from our 26th floor window.

We settled in, then went down to the local supermarket, got some supplies and had our first home        cooked meal which we both enjoyed.
